Trucking Insurance coverage for the road ahead
Physical Damage Insurance
Keeping you on the road
In the trucking industry, Physical Damage coverage is one of the most important insurance policies.
What does physical Damage Insurance coverage actually cover?
Physical Damage coverage protects the owner-operator when his/her unit is damaged. If you have a loan or lease on the vehicle, Physical Damage is typically a coverage that you are required to carry. If you own the vehicle and hold the title, you can choose not to have this coverage but most owner-operators will find that maintaining Physical Damage insurance is prudent.
Physical Damage generally includes two parts:
- Collision Coverage – Collision involves damage to a vehicle when it collides with another object.
- *Comprehensive – Comprehensive is defined as anything other than collision. Comprehensive covers loss caused by theft, fire, vandalism and more.

*Because Comprehensive coverage is defined as “anything other than collision” it is much broader than Specified Perils coverage, which is frequently sold to truckers. Comprehensive provides coverage for loss caused by theft, vandalism and fire, plus any other peril that does not involve collision.
